Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby debuted the vintage-looking pads he will be wearing in the Winter Classic this year, along with a helmet designed to pay tribute to former goalie Olie Kolzig.
“It’s a little tribute to a pretty good Capitals goalie from the past,” Holtby said, which features a design like the one Kolzig wore during his early years in D.C. “It’s based off Olie’s first mask. I think they did a good job of tying the future and the past into it.”

Holtby is 15-7-5 so far this season with a 2.24 GAA and a .920 save percentage. Washington will face the Chicago Blackhawks in the Winter Classic on New Year's Day in Nationals Park.
