The Washington Capitals lost their sixth out of seven games on Sunday, falling to the St. Louis Blues at home, 4-3. It was a frustrating defeat that saw the Caps give up a staggering 40 shots on goal, leaving goaltender Justin Peters to absorb the loss despite making 36 saves.
“The guy battles back there,” forward Brooks Laich said, via the Washington Post. “We’ve got to pick him up. We’ve got to get him that game. . . . We’re hanging him out to dry. It’s not acceptable.”

On a positive note, star forward Alex Ovechkin reached yet another scoring milestone in a career full of them, putting two in the back of the net for goals 30 and 31 on the season. His 30th would make him just the fifth player in NHL history to score 30 goals or more in his first ten seasons.
The other four read like a who's who list of great hockey scorers: Mike Bossy, Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Mike Gartner.
It was a wonderful accomplishment for Ovechkin, but the Caps as a whole still came away with a bitter taste in their mouths - one they hope they can wash away when they host the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
