Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin was named the NHL's 'First Star' for January on Tuesday, after finishing as the only player in the league to reach double-digit goals scored (12) for the month.
Per Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post, "he currently leads the NHL with nine multi-goal games and, during January, topped all colleagues with six power-play goals and 59 shots on net. The 12-goal month was his most prolific since April 2013."
It was a busy month for the Caps superstar who overtook Peter Bondra for #1 in franchise history in game-winning goals scored, placed himself atop the NHL's goal scorer's charts with 31 total tallies, and showcased himself as one of the league's most marketable (and talented) personalities during the 2015 NHL All-Star Game festivities in Columbus.
Now with 32 games left, Ovechkin needs 19 goals to hit 50 for the second-straight season, and sixth time in his already top-shelf career.
