The Washington Capitals have officially been eliminated from the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs. This will be the first time that they have not made the postseason since the 2006-2007 season. Though the Capitals failed to clinch a playoff berth, Alex Ovechkin currently leads the league with 51 goals.
He is the 11th player in NHL history to record 50-goals or more in five seasons. The other ten players are now Hall of Famers: Mike Bossy, Pavel Bure, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito, Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Hull, Brett Hull, Guy Lafleur, Mario Lemieux, and Steve Yzerman.
The last time Ovechkin scored 50 goals in a season was back in 2009-2010, but his record is 65 goals in a single season, which was accomplished in 2007-2008.
Ovechkin's three goals from this month can be seen below.
