Hardee stands 5th after Day 1 of decathlon at World Championships

LONDON – Lifetime Longhorn Trey Hardee began his quest for a third world title in the decathlon on Friday. The former NCAA record holder and Olympic silver medalist started Day 1 of the decathlon with three season's best showings to find himself in fifth place after the first five events.

Hardee amassed 4,313 points over the five events on Friday. He made his biggest move of the day in the shot put where he posted a distance of 15.16 meters (49-9.00) to finish fifth overall in the event and move from sixth into third place in the point standings.
