Novak Djokovic reached the Finals of the Western & Southern Open at Cincinnati when Tomas Berdych retired after losing the first set 5-7. Berdych showed signs of pain in his match against a flat Roger Federer yesterday, but didn't retire then. This puts Federer (The defending Cincinnati Champion) in a bad pace coming into the U.S. Open which is the final Major of the year. Rafael Nadal won his first U.S. Open last year, but he too lost in the quarterfinals yesterday.
Andy Murray beat Mardy Fish (Who I correctly picked to upset Nadal) 6-3 7-6(8) In a tough match. Murray and Djokovic will face each other in their third final this year. Djokovic has won the previous two. Andy Murray came match points away from ending Djokovic's streak before the French Open, where Roger Federer did in the Semis.
My Prediction: Andy Murray avenges his Aussie Open Final loss to Djokovic by winning 6-3 5-7 6-4.
Djokovic is 56-1 on the year, but he seems to have been playing a little sloppier of late, and Andy Murray has been playing extremely well. Murray is known to falter in Major Finals, but he has 6 Masters Championships, the most Masters wins without a Major Slam Championship in the history of the ATP since the open era (1968).
