Four-star defensive end Jonathan Kongbo (Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz), the No. 1 overall JUCO prospect in the country, got one of his first scholarship offers from Tennessee, and said he's going to Tennessee to take an official visit next weekend.
“Just growing up, you would always see Tennessee on TV, and it looked like a real good place to play ball,” said Kongbo. “I was just talking to Coach (Butch) Jones and (running backs) coach (Robert) Gillespie, and they really have a vision for that place. That really took my interest up on them, because they have a vision. They told me where I could fit into that vision, so that’s what got me excited.”
The 6-foot-6, 264-pound Kongbo, who who was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and moved to Surrey, British Columbia, when he was 5, started his college career at Wyoming last year. He went to took his first official visit to Ole Miss and will take an official visit to Oregon State this weekend. However, Tennessee is clearly one of the frontrunners.
“Just kind of looking into more about Tennessee, I saw that they were a young team,” he said. “Like with any young team, the more experience the players get, the better the team gets. And you kind of know, with how the season was going. They didn’t start off real good, but right now they’re looking real good. They’re doing well. I’m attracted to Tennessee because they’re a team that’s getting better. In a couple years, Tennessee is going to be a top contender for a national championship. That’s what really got me interested in them.”
