Middle Tennessee shocked the world with their win over No. 2 seed Michigan State on Friday, but they couldn't build on that with another win against the Syracuse Orange.
The Blue Raiders went blow for blow with Syracuse for most of the game, pulling within 40-39 four minutes into the second half. However, the Orange were able to exert their will from that point on, reeling off a 21-2 run to turn this game into a blowout. Middle Tennessee never threatened after that run as Syracuse got the easy 75-50 win.
Point guard Michael Gbinije led the way for 'Cuse, scoring 23 points. Freshman Tyler Lydon also played a big role off the bench with 14 points, seven rebounds, and six blocks.
Senior Darnell Harris led Middle Tennesse with 11 points, but he didn't get much help from his teammates. Harris was the only player who scored in double figures.
Syracuse advances to face Gonzaga in the Sweet 16 in Chicago, IL on Friday. They are the sixth ACC team to make it to the Sweet 16, as the conference has 12-1 record in the tournament so far.
