While the St. Louis Cardinals are in the market for pitching help prior to the MLB trade deadline on July 31st, they may also be looking to acquire a lefty power bat to balance out their lineup against righthanded pitching.
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "the preference would be to land a lefthanded hitter, and there could be a first baseman or few available at the deadline like that. Milwaukee’s Adam Lind would be one who thumps righthanded pitching."
Despite a recent stretch of solid baseball, the Brewers sit in the cellar of the NL Central a full 18.5 games behind the Cards. They'll likely be sellers before the deadline, and Lind will be an intriguing trade option at a fraction of his $7.5 million salary for 2015 in addition to a meager $500,000 team buyout if the Cardinals decide not to retain him at an $8 million mark for 2016.
Lind is posting a healthy .289/.374/.507 slash for the Brewers this year with 15 home runs and 52 RBI.
