On this day 29 years ago, a future Brazilian soccer star was born. Marta Vieira da Silva was born in Dois Riachos, Alagoas, Brazil. At 14, she began her professional career with Vasco da Gama under Helena Pacheco in Rio de Janeiro. She would make her first international appearance with the Brazil Women's National team three years later.
This five-time FIFA World Player of the Year currently plays with Tyreso FF in Sweden. Marta's 12 goals in 15 appearances were tied for fifth in scoring in the Damallsvenskan during the 2013 season.
On the international stage, Marta looks to win her first World Cup championship in 2015. Brazil's best finish in the World Cup came in 2011 behind Marta's four-goal performance in Germany.
