Week 7 SEC Power Rankings: Three Teams Make Major Statements

This season, there are three distinct tiers in the SEC. There are about four teams that are just downright bad, three that have proven to be a cut above (all ranked in the top 10 nationally), and the rest are all jumbled together in a very large group of middling teams. However, a number of teams - including two in that middling tier - made major statements on Saturday. Here are our SEC Power Rankings heading into Week 7 of the college football season:

14) Missouri Tigers (1-4)
Mizzou was close to beating Kentucky on Saturday but came up six points short. They're still the only team in the conference with a single win and haven't beaten an FBS team yet.

13) Ole Miss Rebels (2-3)
The Rebels have lost their last three games by a combined 95 points. That's not good.

12) Arkansas Razorbacks (2-3)
Bret Bielema's job is in serious jeopardy after the Razorbacks were trounced 48-22 by South Carolina. Arkansas' only two wins this year have come over Florida A&M and New Mexico State. Can they capture the magic they always seem to find in the second half of the season?

11) Vanderbilt Commodores (3-3)
Vanderbilt's win over Kansas State no longer looks great with the Wildcats struggling, and a 45-14 loss to Georgia shows a team that's reeling. For a squad that has a reputation for being good defensively, being outscored 142-38 over the last three weeks is not an ideal look.

10) Tennessee Volunteers (3-2)
A bye week was the only thing that could quell more rumblings about Butch Jones' job status. He simply can't afford a loss to South Carolina this weekend.

9) LSU Tigers (4-2)
LSU desperately needed that 17-16 win over Florida in Gainesville on Saturday after losing to Troy. That win speaks to the talent that's on the roster, but that loss to Troy - and, let's not forget their 37-7 loss to Mississippi State - keeps them in this spot.

8) Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-2)
The bye also came at the right time for Mississippi State after being outscored 80-13 by Auburn and Georgia in the previous two weeks. That's just terrible.

7) South Carolina Gamecocks (4-2)
South Carolina had one of their best performances of their season in that dominant win over Arkansas in which they finally played well on both sides of the ball. They close the month with Tennessee and Vanderbilt, both of which will tell us if this team is capable of moving up this list.

6) Kentucky Wildcats (5-1)
The Wildcats continue to play to their level of competition. Missouri had no business being in the game with them, but then again, neither did Southern Miss, Eastern Kentucky, and Eastern Michigan. However, they're one point away from being undefeated and changing the conversation around the program. They have a bye before a road game against Mississippi State.

5) Florida Gators (3-2)
The feeling around the Gators is suddenly a little less warm and fuzzy following that loss to LSU. There will continue to be questions about their offense all season.

4) Texas A&M Aggies (4-2)
How does Texas A&M actually move up in these rankings following a 27-19 loss to Alabama? First, they played the Tide better than anyone else has this season. And, secondly, that's how weak the middle of the SEC is. The Aggies showed major signs of promise in the loss. Now they need to turn that into a win against Florida next weekend.

3) #10 Auburn Tigers (5-1)
Auburn's defense is as good as any in the country and it looks like the offense has found their stride of late putting up a combined 144 in their last three games. If Jarrett Stidham & Co. can continue to play like this, look out for the Tigers.

2) #4 Georgia Bulldogs (6-0)
The Bulldogs continue to roll with a dominant performance against Vanderbilt. With one of the best running back duos in the country and an elite defense, UGA looks like a real threat to unseat Alabama.

1) #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (6-0)
That said, the SEC still runs through Tuscaloosa even after looking less than perfect against A&M. Alabama is a machine that just keeps on rolling and have three home games (Arkansas, Tennessee, LSU) on deck.
