The SEC is the best conference in the country with some of the most storied programs in the country and many of the country's top players. Here are the six players that have separated themselves above the rest in the SEC this year:
6) Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss Rebels
Say what you will about Ole Miss' inconsistent season, but Kelly has been much better than anticipated. He leads the SEC in passing yards (3,504 yards) and total touchdowns (34 - 25 passing, nine running), but does have 12 interceptions on the season. For Kelly to take the next step, he has to produce at a more reliable pace instead of the boom-or-bust we've seen from him this year - but his production has been undeniable.
5) Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State Bulldogs
Prescott was the Heisman front-runner for most of last season, and while he's absolutely not in contention for that award this year, he's actually a much improved quarterback. The senior has passed for 3,125 yards and 23 touchdowns with just three interceptions so far this season while still racking up 478 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
4) Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida Gators
The best cornerback in the country would've been a top-10 pick last year as a sophomore, and is almost guaranteed to be that this year as a junior. He's grabbed four interceptions and is an exceptional tackler - the kind of dual-threat coverage and run-stopping corner that shuts down one whole side of the field.
3) Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M Aggies
Garrett is perhaps the most feared pass rusher in the SEC, racking up 10.5 sacks so far this season. His elite combination of size and speed have NFL scouts drooling, but the true sophomore will be back in College Station next year.
2) Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU Tigers
Fournette was the runaway Heisman favorite early in the season, but three less-than-stellar performances have knocked him out of the race entirely. Still, Fournette is still the leading rusher in the country and arguably the most talented back in college football.
1) Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama Crimson Tide
Henry's workload against Charleston Southern was extremely light, but he still scored two touchdowns to run his streak of consecutive games with a score to 16 games. With 21 touchdowns on the year, Henry is tied with Trent Richardson (2011) for the most rushing touchdowns in a season in Alabama history. He's the best running back in the nation, leaving LSU RB Leonard Fournette in the dust over the past three weeks.
