National Signing Day is one of the biggest days in college football, as landing a good class can set a program up for long-term success on the field in the fall. That is certainly the case in the SEC, as teams across the league hope to set themselves up for success with their 2017 recruiting class. Here is how those classes stack up against each other:
14) Vanderbilt Commodores - No. 62 nationally
Head coach Derek Mason has done a good job accumulating depth at Vandy, and did that this year with 17 three-star prospects.
13) Missouri Tigers - No. 49 nationally
Mizzou has slipped in recruiting rankings over the past few years, and even though they're 13th in the conference, they have landed 23 commitments, 22 of whom are three-star guys that will compete for playing time. Adding depth was key for the Tigers, and they've added it.
12) Ole Miss Rebels - No. 34 nationally
Ole Miss has clearly been hurt from a pending NCAA investigation into the program. They only landed two four-star guys (LB Breon Dixon, WR D.D. Bowie) in a 21-person class.
11) Kentucky Wildcats - No. 29 nationally
This is the best class Mark Stoops has had at Kentucky. They're a program on the rise who found some potential stars with four four-star prospects (ATH Lynn Bowden, WR JaVonte Richardson, DE Joshua Paschal, ATH Tyrell Aijan).
10) Arkansas Razorbacks - No. 28 nationally
Arkansas has pulled in another solid class headlined by four-star cornerback Chevin Calloway, who should be this team's No. 1 corner from day one. Bret Bielema also went to the junior college ranks, landing four JUCO prospects in this class.
9) Mississippi State Bulldogs - No. 22 nationally
The Bulldogs also got a huge get on Signing Day in four-star OLB Willie Gay, who is ranked as the No. 73 overall prospect in the country. He provided a big boost to a class that is solid top to bottom.
8) South Carolina Gamecocks - No. 20 nationally
Will Muschamp's first full class at South Carolina hasn't disappointed. Although they don't have a five-star prospect in the class, six four-star guys headlined by cornerback Jamyest Williams and wide receiver OrTre Smith.
7) Tennessee Volunteers - No. 16 nationally
The Vols did most of their work leading up to Signing Day, landing five-star offensive tackle Trey Smith in December. He is obviously the crowned jewel of the class that also has four four-star recruits and 23 three-star prospects.
6) Florida Gators - No. 14 nationally
Florida's class has been criticized by fans for the lack of a five-star recruit, but the Gators have landed 10 four-star recruits. Offensive guard Tedarrell Slaton headlines the group as the only player ranked in the top 100 nationally.
5) Texas A&M Aggies - No. 10 nationally
A&M also missed out on having any of the five-star prospects in their recruiting class, but with nine four-star signees and 18 three-star commits, they class is both talented and deep.
4) Auburn Tigers - No. 9 nationally
The real prize of Auburn's class is Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham, who is expected to be the Tigers' starting quarterback next year. As for incoming freshmen, five-star offensive tackle Calvin Ashley is also expected to start immediately. In total, they have 23 commits with 10 four-star prospects to add to those two.
3) LSU Tigers - No. 5 nationally
The Tigers may have a new head coach in Ed Orgeron, but they are still one of the most dominant recruiting programs in the country. Safety JaCoby Stevens is the lone five-star recruit in the group, joined by 14 four-star prospects.
2) Georgia Bulldogs - No. 3 nationally
Kirby Smart's first full class at Georgia is an awesome one. Five-star offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson and five-star safety Richard LeCounte III headline the class, and 18 four-star recruits joining them - five of whom join Wilson and LeCounte as top 100 prospects.
1) Alabama Crimson Tide - No. 1 nationally
What can you say about Alabama that hasn't already been said in previous years? They have 28 commitments, including six five-star signees (more than anyone else) and a record 21 prospects ranked in the ESPN 300. No one dominates recruiting like Nick Saban.
