Last season, in an effort to expand the pool of games eligible for selection, the NFL changed its rules to allow teams to have a maximum of two appearances on Thursday Night Football. In effect, it opened the door for teams to be subject to multiple short-week games.
The Seattle Seahawks played on consecutive Thursdays in 2023—one of the games was Thanksgiving on NBC and so technically it was not a part of the Thursday Night Football package—so they only had to deal with one Sunday-to-Thursday turnaround. Not so fortunate this year.
