Mariners to pursue trade for Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon?

In this Mariners trade rumors and news update, the Seattle Mariners could be the New York Mets' last hope when it comes to finding a trade suitor for 41-year-old starting pitcher Bartolo Colon before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline.

However, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, "among teams seen as having some interest, San Francisco already filled its rotation opening with Jake Peavy, while Seattle appears to be looking for the moment at the top-tier guys, including David PriceJon Lester and Cole Hamels."

It is now looking likely that both David Price and Cole Hamels will remain with their current teams, potentially leaving Jon Lester as the only marquee starting pitching name left on the trade market.

If that is indeed the case, the Seattle Mariners could very well take a good, long look at Colon. Scheduled to make $11 million in 2015, Colon is currently 10-8 with a 3.88 ERA and a 106 strikeouts against just 20 walks. While a deal doesn't exactly look promising at this point, he remains an option if the Mariners decide to go to Plan B (or even C).
