Mariners reacquire Kendrys Morales from Twins via trade

In this breaking Mariners rumors and news update, the Seattle Mariners reacquired Kendrys Morales from the Twins on Thursday in exchange for right-hander Stephen Pryor, per a team announcement.

After declining to re-sign with the Mariners as a restricted free agent this offseason, Morales was signed by the Twins shortly after the MLB Draft in June. He hit just .234/.259/.325 with Minnesota in 39 games, but leaves the Twin Cities just after wrapping up a 12-game hitting streak.

Morales will slot in at DH once again for Seattle upon his arrival to the Pacific Northwest. Mariners designated hitters are currently hitting just .217 this season with limited pop, positioning Morales as a definite upgrade going forward.

The Mariners will pick up the remainder of Morales' prorated $12 million deal with the Twins (a deal that cost Minnesota $3.08 million in less than two months). In exchange, the Twins now take on 25-year-old Stephen Pryor who has been battling control issues at Triple-A Tacoma all season long while making his way back from an injury to his latissimus dorsi muscle.
