The Seattle Mariners have reportedly offered free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera a three-year deal, but it appears that Cabrera is currently intent on holding out for a fourth.
Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reported on Friday that the Mariners extended Cabrera the three-year contract offer, but that still doesn't appear to be enough to get the veteran outfielder to the Pacific Northwest.
As Aaron Gleeman of NBC's Hardball Talk reports, "this morning reports out of Baltimore said the Orioles were willing to sign Cabrera for 2-3 years, but four years was too rich for their blood. Of course, if enough teams express interest in him at three years there’s seemingly a pretty decent chance one of them will cave on the fourth year to get a deal done."
Cabrera hit .301 with 16 home runs and an .808 OPS in 139 games for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2014. He turned down a one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer from the club, thus meaning that any team who signs him will have to forfeit a draft pick in order to finalize a deal.
