Free agent ace Max Scherzer remains on the market with Spring Training not far off, and the San Francisco Giants have been listed as one theoretical option for Scherzer as his price tag has seemingly dropped at least a little over the past few weeks.

According to MLB Trade Rumors' Steve Adams, "ESPN's Jim Bowden lists the Tigers, Red Sox, Dodgers, Yankees, Nationals, Marlins, Giants and Blue Jays as theoretical fits, noting that he doesn’t expect the latter two would make an offer. The Tigers are still the favorites in Bowden’s eyes, while multiple Yankees officials would “love” to have Scherzer (despite the club’s public and private denials)."
The Giants aren't willing to break the bank on a front-line starter to pair up with Madison Bumgarner, so it would take a complete reverse in tack by Scherzer's representation for San Francisco to even consider putting an offer on the table - something that still doesn't seem likely with teams still scuffling to augment their starting rotations.
