In today's Giants trade rumors and news bulletin, the San Francisco Giants are still scouring the trade market for options at second base after dealing for the rights to Dan Uggla last week.
According to Ryan Fagan of the Sporting News, the Giants could very well still be all-in on Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Ben Zobrist. However, if Zobrist is not an option, the Giants could look inside the division at Arizona's Martin Prado:
Prado is another ideal fit for the Giants, though it might be tricky to convince Arizona to send Prado, who is under contract through 2016, to a division rival. Prado would solve San Francisco’s second-base problem for the rest of this season, and then his ability to play third and left field would provide flexibility as the Giants figure out their plan for 2015 (Pablo Sandoval and Mike Morse, respectively, are free agents after this season).
The Diamondbacks have reportedly been reticent to include Prado in trade talks, however, so it could take an over-sized trade package in order to pry him out of the desert. The Giants would like have to part with an even bigger haul to land Zobrist, so all bets are currently off as general manager Brian Sabean assesses the landscape heading into the deadline.
