The San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with former Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Curtis Partch, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Here's Rosecrans with the report via Twitter:
Former #Reds RHP Curtis Partch signs with #Giants, minor-league deal with big league invite
— C. Trent Rosecrans (@ctrent) December 16, 2014
As stated above, the deal includes an invite to spring training, giving Partch a chance to make the team's bullpen heading into Opening Day of the 2015 MLB season.
Partch, 27, was non-tendered by the Cincinnati Reds earlier in December after he posted a less-than-stellar 4.75 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 22/24 K/BB ratio in 30.1 combined innings (20 relief appearances) in 2013 and 2014 .
He turns 28 years old in mid-February, so the Giants are likely Banking on Partch finding a rhythm in the big leagues prior to reaching his 30th birthday. It's a low-risk deal any way you slice it, and could provide solid dividends for limited cost.
