Korean shortstop Jung-Ho Kang will be posted for bidding on Monday by the Korean Baseball Organization, according to FoxSports.com, and is likely to draw significant interest from several teams including the San Francisco Giants.
Kang, 27, is a middle infielder with major power potential who has spent the last seven seasons playing for the Nexen Heroes of the KBO. He's is currently coming off career year in which he hit .354 with 39 home runs, 115 RBIs and posted a 1.189 OPS in 116 games for the Heroes.
While the open market for MLB-caliber shortstops is currently pretty thin, the word around Major League Baseball has Kang being projected as a second baseman. CBS Sports reported on Monday that the New York Mets and Oakland A's join the San Francisco Giants in having legitimate interest in Kang.
Both the Mets and A's are both in major need of help in the middle infield, while the CBS Sports report posits that the Giants could transition Joe Panik to third as a replacement for Pablo Sandoval) and shift Kang into Panik's spot at second.
