In today's Giants news update, beloved San Francisco Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro could find his way back to the big league roster sooner rather than later with his back problems starting to clear up.
Per Adam Lichtenstein of MLB.com, while Scutaro has been on the disabled list for the entire season with a strained back, he recently indicated that he starting to feel a lot better.
"Right now, I'm pretty much back to where I was in Spring Training when I got better," Scutaro stated.
"I'm just going to try to get ready and go like this and play when my back lets me, and when it won't let me, [I'll] just cheer for my guys. I'm just tired. [I have] been waiting for my back to get better."
Lichtenstein indicates that Scutaro could find himself on a rehab assignment with the rookie-level Arizona Giants as soon as next week. If all goes well there, it would only be a matter of time before he returns to the Major League roster.
When Scutaro does come back, he might be faced with the possibility of being slotted in as a part-time player - something he is firmly prepared to make work if he has to..
"[That is] definitely one way to get back," Scutaro said via Lichtenstein's article on Friday. "Help my team somehow. But I'm just going to be available for whatever. I can help them from the bench, from whatever, pinch-runner or something.
"I'd be more than happy to just contribute."
