The defending World Series champion SF Giants have struggled so far during the start of the 2015 MLB season, but the season's still young enough for the team to find consistency up and down the board. With that being said, there are a few trends emerging that it would do us well to take notice of.
Here's 3 Things We've Learned So Far About The 2015 SF Giants.
1. ERA Doesn't The Tell The Whole Story
The SF Giants actually have a middling team ERA so far in 2015 (3.86, 17th in MLB), but that's not indicative of just how much the team's pitching staff has struggled as a whole. Giants pitchers have pitching to contact with limited to no success, ranking 2nd to last in the Majors in total bases allowed (184) and 5th worst in opposing batting average (.270).
Until Giants' pitchers full find their stuff and start missing some bats, the Giants' rough start will carry on.
2. There's Plenty Of Reason To Expect Offensive Improvement
Brandon Crawford's not going to hit .163 for the rest of the season. Brandon Belt is definitely not going to waltz along at a .103 clip. A litany of the Giants' best hitters (including Buster Posey) have been mired in inconsistent starts at the dish, and there's no reason not to think that the law of averages will take hold and things will start to even out.
3. It's Early Yet, So Chill
There are around 12.5 thirteen-game chunks in a baseball season, giving the SF Giants ample time to figure themselves out and get the machine rolling once again. A small sample size like this means nothing -- ask the Milwaukee Brewers, who set the world on fire early in 2014 before hitting a brick wall face-first. Time to relax.
