SANTA CLARA – Replacing one of the most popular and successful coaches in 49ers history is one thing.
But taking over for Jim Harbaugh might be the easy part. Inheriting a roster comprised of 26 players who have played two or fewer seasons in the NFL has been the biggest challenge first-year coach Jim Tomsula has faced with the 49ers.
The 49ers (2-4) meet the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night in what figures to be a pivotal game at Levi’s Stadium against the two franchise that have represented the NFC in the past three Super Bowls.
Veteran linebacker NaVorro Bowman told Seattle-area media this week on a conference call that he believes Tomsula is handling the difficult assignment as well as possible.
