The latest San Francisco 49ers news is that the 49ers have received a one-week roster extension for WR Jerome Simpson from the NFL.
Simpson's six-game suspension is over, meaning he can now join the team's roster. That would normally require the 49ers clearing a roster spot, but not in this case, according to the team's own website.
The 49ers were given a one-week exemption for Simpson, likely because the 49ers play Thursday Night. Simpson can practice with the team and won't count against the active roster, assuming the 49ers decide not to active him.
Head coach Jim Tomsula was non-committal when asked about Simpson playing this week.
“I don’t want to really say on that yet,” Tomsula said according to the 49ers' website. “He has been in meetings all year, so I don’t really want to make a statement one way or the other. We’ll find out through the next few days.”
Given that Simpson won't count against the active roster, it'd be a surprise to see him activated this week.
