The NFL Playoffs are in full swing, but the focus for the San Francisco 49ers remains squarely on the search for former head coach Jim Tomsula's replacement. Here's the latest and most interesting 49ers coaching rumor/news tidbits for Tuesday, January 12th.
49ers Passing On Hue Jackson?
It was only a few days ago that Hue Jackson was widely reported to be the front-runner to land the 49ers job. That appears to no longer be the case.
Sounds like the 49ers are no longer in the Hue Jackson sweepstakes. They COULD double-back, but sounds like that pursuit is over for now.

Kawakami reports the team is still high on Jackson, but that something changed in the last few days. He says the Browns are likely that something. He reports that two of the potential issues with Jackson and the 49ers was personnel power and QB Colin Kaepernick. It's worth mentioning that Michael Silver reports no team is out on Jackson yet.
Chip Kelly The New Favorite?
If the 49ers are out on Jackson, that might make Chip Kelly the new favorite.
Right now, there's a lot of focus in coaching circles on John DeFilippo. It's assumed the 49ers want him as their OC. What HC fits w/that?

Kelly is the best candidate who fits that description. Kelly recruited DeFilippo to New Hampshire. The 49ers could very well try to hire DeFilippo to serve as the OC under Kelly.

Tom Coughlin Meeting
The 49ers are still doing interviews with possible candidates.
Well. A source tells me the #49ers are meeting with ex-#Giants coach Tom Coughlin today. This is getting interesting...

The interview is expected to take place later tonight. Given Coughlin's age, it seems unlikely the 49ers will hire him.
