With Anthony Davis taking time away from football in 2015, the San Francisco 49ers are in need of bodies at offensive tackle. They added one name to the mix on Friday, claiming Sean Hooey off of waivers from the Jets.
Here's Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk with the report:
Hooey gives the team depth as they head toward training camp, but there hasn’t been much evidence that he’ll wind up on the 53-man roster in September. He spent all of 2013 and part of last season on the Rams practice squad before signing with the Jets this offseason. He was waived this week and the Jets added former Saints tackle Charles Brown on Friday.
Erik Pears stepped into Davis’s spot at right tackle during this week’s minicamp, although the 49ers won’t rule out other possibilities for the position at this point.
