In this 49ers news update, the San Francisco 49ers have listed both Vernon Davis and Vance McDonald as questionable for Sunday's game in Arizona, forcing them to promote a tight end from the team's practice squad.
Per Josh Alper of NBC's Pro Football Talk, "the team announced that they have promoted tight end Asante Cleveland from the practice squad. Cleveland was signed as an undrafted free agent after wrapping up at the University of Miami and signed to San Francisco’s practice squad after failing to make the team out of training camp."
Quarterback Josh Johnson was waived to open a spot for Cleveland. Johnson had been third on the team's depth chart behind Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert, and could very well come back to the 49ers for his third stint with the team after the team gets healthy once again at tight end.
Both Davis (ankle, knee) and McDonald (knee) have missed practice all week long with their respective injuries, making it a distinct possibility that they will both be a no-go in Week 3.
