San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis had toe surgery on Friday. From all accounts, it was a success.
Despite landing on season-ending injured reserve due to the surgery, Willis displayed a big smile after the procedure in an Instagram post.
“Surgery went well thank u all for the support and heartfelt wishes. Determined to get back on that field and be better than ever. Road back starts now! #alwaysbelieve,” Willis wrote on Instagram, via Darin Gantt of NBC's Pro Football Talk.
Rookie Chris Borland has played decently as Willis' replacement in the middle, but the team has missed both Willis' production and leadership as the quarterback of the defense.
However, Willis' good spirits are a welcome sign. The San Francisco 49ers will be more than happy to have a rested, motivated Patrick Willis back on the field when the 2015 NFL season kicks off.
