49ers News: 49ers still have over $6 million in salary cap space

In today's 49ers news update, the San Francisco 49ers still have plenty of money to work with under the 2014 NFL salary cap if they decide to either extend some more contracts or pick up another free agent this offseason.

According to Bill Williamson of ESPN.com, "now, with the Kaepernick deal on the books for the 2014 season, the 49ers still have some cap wiggle room. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the 49ers have $6.422 million remaining in salary-cap room. The 49ers have signed their entire 12-player draft class."

Most NFL teams try to keep around $5 million in salary cap room in case of emergency, but Williamson indicates that the 49ers could very well use the extra breathing room to extend the contract of one of the veterans on their squad.

Wide receiver Michael Crabtree, guard Mike Iupati, and defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey are all entering the final year of their respective deals.
