In an interview with KNBR, 49ers reporter Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee said he believes it's unlikely that WR Michael Crabtree and G Mike Iupati re-sign with the team.
Crabtree and Iupati are both free agents coming off of a disappointing season for the 49ers.
Iupati certainly had the better year, getting named to his third consecutive Pro Bowl, but Crabtree seemed to check out mid-way through the season and never looked up to his usual standard. Crabtree finished the year with 68 catches for 698 yards and 4 touchdowns. Not counting 2013, when he played in just five games, It was Crabtree's lowest output since his rookie year.
Iupati was San Francisco's 2010 first-round draft pick out of Idaho, and he's missed only five starts since. The 49ers have rookie guards Marcus Martin and Brandon Thomas under contract, and they're hoping that one will step into Iupati's role if he departs in free agency...which looks like the most likely scenario at this point.
The fate of several other 49ers free agents, including starting RB Frank Gore, remains up in the air. Gore has already been linked in the media with the Washington Redskins, who hired former 49ers GM Scot McCloughan - the GM who drafted Gore - earlier this week.
