In today's Suns rumors and news from the first day of the 2014 NBA free agency period, one Washington Post writer believes that the young core of star players on the Phoenix Suns presents an "attractive option" for superstar free agents Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James.
According to Neil Greenberg, a combination of health and youthful talent could be exactly the tickets to lure a marquee name such as James to the Valley of the Sun:
One 11-year study in 2011 showed that the Suns had been the most injury-free team after the Spurs, with just 48 games lost because of injuries per year. That has to be intriguing to a player like James who is not only entering his 30s, but has had issues with cramping up during the most inopportune times.
The Suns won 48 games last season, have three first-round draft picks in 2015 and a young core that, with the right max-contract players, could become the dominating force in the Western Conference for years to come.
Per Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the Suns have $33.5 million in cap space and could easily shed the extra $10 million off the books in order to sign both Anthony and James to max deals - something which can't be discounted with the long-time friends' reported interest in playing together.
However, James is reportedly leaning towards remaining in Miami, at least for the short-term. Therefore, the Suns will continue to look at various Plan B's in the marketplace while waiting for James to make up his mind about his professional future.
