Eric Bledsoe got the payday he wanted, and the Suns managed to hold on to one of the NBA's most promising young point guards.
Bledsoe's relationship with the Suns neared the point of no return after contract talks stalled earlier in the summer, but the two sides were able to settle their differences and agree on a massive deal. Several teams (including the Los Angeles Lakers) had been pursuing Bledsoe, a restricted free agent, but the Suns publicly stated their intention to match any outside offers sent his way.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports was the first to report a deal could be close, and ESPN's Brian Windhorst confirmed today that Bledsoe and the Suns were able to agree to the deal. Phoenix already has All-NBA Third Team PG Goran Dragic locked up for the immediate future, and completed a sign-and-trade deal to acquire former Kings PG Isaiah Thomas earlier this summer. Phoenix also selected point guard Tyler Ennis out of Syracuse with the 18th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
With Bledsoe back in the fold, Phoenix will likely start Bledsoe and Dragic while bringing Thomas and Ennis off the bench.
The Suns won 48 games in 2013 under first-year HC Jeff Hornacek, but missed out on the playoffs in the brutally competitive Western Conference.
