We're less than three weeks away from the 2015 MLB trade deadline, which means there are plenty of rumors swirling around the Philadelphia Phillies and what they might do on the trade market. With that being said, here's the last in our Phillies Trade Rumors Roundup For July 11th.
Hamels "pressing" due to trade rumors?
Perpetual trade chip Cole Hamels had a nightmarish night on Friday, giving up an eye-popping nine earned runs in 3.1 innings in a 15-2 Phillies loss to the SF Giants.
Hamels' ERA ballooned from 3.02 to 3.61 by the time the disastrous outing came to the close, and interim manager Pete Mackanin believes part of Friday's struggles may be attributed to the swirling trade rumors surrounding Hamels before the July 31st deadline.
“I can’t remember a time where I’ve seen him pitch like that,” Mackanin said, via CSN Philly. “There’s a lot going on and it affected him. But I know he’s much better than that. Who knows, he might pressing knowing that the trading deadline is coming around. There’s so many little things that players think about that you can’t control.”
Speaking of Hamels...
...Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported that Hamels would be unlikely to waive his no-trade clause for a potential move to the Astros or Blue Jays.
Hamels reportedly wants to move to a more traditional power, but his tune may very well change as the days wear on towards the deadline.
Is Chase Utley in play?
He may very well be, if GM Ruben Amaro's to the question of whether or not Chase Utley will be the team's everyday second baseman when he returns from his right ankle injury.
"Not for me he's not," GM Ruben Amaro said bluntly. "Cesar Hernandez is our best second baseman."
Utley may be hard to move with very few updates about his health hitting the press in the two-plus weeks he's been on the disabled list, but we're not ruling it out at this juncture.
