The Philadelphia Phillies and second baseman Chase Utley haven't shown signs of desiring to part ways, but one Philadelphia columnist wonders if the team's recent trade of Jimmy Rollins might change things.
As Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer points out, "Utley, like Rollins, earned 10-and-5 no-trade rights. He has never shown a desire to leave Philadelphia, but neither did Rollins until lately. There are teams that need a second baseman - the Nationals, Yankees, Angels, Orioles, and Blue Jays, to name a few - and Amaro said there has been "plenty" of interest in his two middle infielders."
However, Gelb adds that Utley is an "iconic figure" in Philadelphia sports lore, and moving both him and Rollins in the same offseason may not exactly make good business sense. Ruben Amaro will likely be reticent to deal Utley and risk the firestorm that could come with such an obvious tear-down.
However, this is still a "slim" chance that Philadelphia would be willing to pull the trigger on such a deal if they can garner the right package of prospects in return and Utley signs off on a potential move.
