In this Phillies rumors and news update, rampant trade speculation involving Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels might be just that - mere speculation.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Phillies haven't received any actual offers for Hamels over the past couple of weeks, nor have they been searching out a deal on their own accord:
Source: #Phillies have received no offers for Hamels, nor have they made any specific requests. No meaningful dialogue.

With about a dozen Phillies players currently rumored to be on the block before Thursday's non-waiver trade deadline, a source close to the team indicates that Hamels is a virtual lock to remain with the club:
Source describes a trade of Hamels as the “least likely” of all the deals #Phillies are considering.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported earlier today that teams were being met with exorbitant demands when they inquired about Hamels. This was probably a bit of gamesmanship on general manager Ruben Amaro's part - placing an insanely-high price tag on Hamels just to see if he could extract an absolute haul in return for the 30-year-old lefty.
In 18 starts this season, Hamels is 5-5 with a 2.72 ERA and a 1.153 WHIP.
