Philadelphia Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg has a solid inkling why rookie third baseman Maikel Franco has slipped into a slump following a hot start in the first few games after his May 15th recall.
"It looks like he's too long and too big and that's creating an upward swing," Sandberg said of Franco, via NJ.com. "He's lacking some hard-ball type of contact with line drives. Those are mechanical adjustments."
Franco is currently hitting just .203, but he has produced at a solid clip with two home runs and eight RBIs in 15 games. He was given his 16th start in a row by Sandberg on Sunday.
"These are at-bats and games played for him to gain experience and make adjustments," Sandberg said. "He's going to have to make adjustments with the pitching."
Prior to his call-up, Franco hit a searing .355 in 33 Triple-A contests.
