After watching what may have been one of the hardest Eagles wins in recent memory, the question to ask is, “What was up with Michael Vick today?”
It is easy to criticize Michael Vick for a number of reasons, many of which that I have no reason to explain. But four interceptions for a man with a $100 million dollar contract is a tough pill to swallow.
As a matter of fact, without the solid timely defense today from the Philadelphia defense, the Eagles would probably be looking at preparing for next week with an 0-1 record. On the day, Vick was 29/56 with 317 yards, two touchdowns, and FOUR interceptions.
Now reading across the line, everything looked alright. 317 yards, that’s solid, and two touchdowns, okay. The alarming stat of the game for Eagles fans for sure is the four interceptions.
I am not saying that Vick had an awful day, because 317 yards is still, well, 317 yards. I am just concerned that if the Eagles are going to have to rely on winning every game with a turnover prone quarterback, that is where their troubles begin.
Now, one may argue (myself included) that one or two of the interceptions could and/or should have been caught by an Eagles receiver. On that same note, one may argue that the balls were tipped as the balls were just enough out of reach of the receivers.
Either way, in order to give the Eagles any chance to win each week, Michael Vick is going to have to address his turnover rate. The Eagles will not win with four interceptions against teams like the Chicago Bears, New York Giants, or even the Washington Redskins.
Philadelphia caught a break as Browns rookie quarterback was equally as bad at keeping the ball as Vick, coughing up four interceptions himself.
The Eagles can take two positives from this game at least. First, a win is a win, and second, the injury prone Vick did not get hurt or killed in today’s game.
