For all the negative press the Philadelphia Phillies have received this offseason, there's still reasons for optimism dotted all over the squad heading into the 2015 MLB season. While some are content pointing at the team's aging, expensive core as a huge problem going forward, we're here to shine a light on the good things happening around the Fightin' Phils. Here's 3 Philadelphia Phillies Players Ready To Break Out In 2015.
SS Freddy Galvis
Galvis has already put it together from a defensive perspective over parts of three seasons with Philadelphia, but his work at the plate has left something to be desired. He's hit no higher that .234 from 2012-14 (2013), but his solid numbers in the Caribbean Winter League (.250 avg, 12 doubles in 51 games) suggest that work on his swing this offseason is starting to bear fruit.
2B Cesar Hernandez
Hernandez's ascent to becoming the heir apparent to Chase Utley has been delayed several times over the past few seasons, but he should have a chance to stick in a backup role to Utley in 2015. He's struggled all spring, but the team's current roster construction and eye to the future likely means an extended look for Hernandez some time in 2015. If so, he's talented enough to shake off his spring doldrums and make an impact.
OF Odubel Herrera
Herrera's got all the tools to be the team's best Rule 5 pickup since Shane Victorino back in 2004. If his torrid winter in the Venezuelan League is any indication (.372, 6 homers), there's enough here in the tank for a star turn in 2015 -- especially after hitting .355 in the team's first 19 exhibition games this spring.
