We're just seven days away from National Signing Day on February 3rd, which means head coach James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions are tripling down their efforts in hopes of delivering a banner 2016 recruiting class. With that in mind, here are the three biggest rumors from the Penn State recruiting trail for January 27th.
Penn State To Land Former Illinois Commit?
3-star defensive tackle Antonio Shelton takes his official visit to Happy Valley this weekend, and sources with knowledge of his recruitment process believe the visit will be the finishing touches on a pledge from the former Illinois commit.
Rutgers is currently a distant second for the #82 defensive tackle in the nation, with Illnois still in the picture by courtesy only. In short, Shelton should be in the Nittany Lions fold before long -- maybe even before National Signing Day. More on Penn State's recruiting efforts inside our iPhone and Android apps.
Receiver Prospects Coming To Campus
Penn State is set to host three receiver prospects this weekend who are already committed to other programs -- Minnesota commit Dredrick Snelson, Rutger pledge Taysir Mack, and Temple verbal Dae'lun Darien.
According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, Penn State could conceivably bring in two of those three receivers if they can secure flips this weekend or before Signing Day.
Rashad Weaver A Dark Horse Signing?
The Temple Owls are way out in front for three-star strong-side defensive end and former Michigan Wolverins commit Rashad Weaver, but there are rumors that Penn State could be a player to swoop in on him before next Wednesday. Get the skinny on other potential Penn State commits in our Android and iPhone apps.
Rumblings around the program indicate that the Fort Lauderdale (FL) product could be on campus this weekend, giving PSU a chance to bolster a 17-player recruiting class that's already ranked #14 in the nation by 247Sports.
