Orlando area teams have won seven of the past 13 FHSAA boys volleyball state championships but Metro Conference powers dominated like never before this season.
Freedom, which won the 2019 state title, repeated that feat after the 2020 season was wiped out by the COVID-19 outbreak. And the second best team in the state — according to MaxPrep rankings — was Winter Park, which lost only once, to Freedom.
Freedom coach Gina McFerren earned the Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year honor for the second time. She was also the 2019 recipient of that award.
The area player of the year, Ryan Peluso, has another high school season to play.
