Ohio State Recruiting News: Buckeyes Move For Athletic Safety Mike Rogers

Mike Rogers is still an under-the-radar prospect, but that's changing quickly. The monster season Rogers is having has drawn notice from around the country, and according to the latest rumors Ohio State has been in contact with the player and will shortly be offering him a scholarship. Rogers can play a number of positions, and he's considered a cornerback/safety at the college level despite putting up huge numbers this season as a running back. A Chicago native, Rogers moved to Georgia over the summer and is currently enrolled at Campbell HS.

A versatile athlete with breakaway speed, Rogers has been timed at 10.9 seconds in the 100-meter dash and runs a 4.5 40. With nine touchdowns in four games so far this season, Rogers' rankings in the major scouting networks have risen rapidly over the past two months, and aren't expected to stop any time soon.

Rogers is currently a UCF commit, but that's expected to change sooner rather than later. The player has received scholarship offers from Georgia as well as several other SEC programs, and the Buckeyes are expected to follow suit in the next few weeks. Scout.com had Rogers listed as a 3-star recruit, but upgraded him to 4 stars on October 1.

A native of the Midwest, Rogers has expressed definite interest in playing for Ohio State. It's too early to call OSU the frontrunner, but we'd say the Buckeyes have an excellent chance at landing a player who could be the steal of the 2014 class.
