The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in the process of putting together yet another strong recruiting class under Brian Kelly. The Fighting Irish already have several players committed, but they aren't done yet. They're making a strong push during the last month of recruiting as we heads towards National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Here's all the latest news and rumors you need to know about Notre Dame football recruiting.
Top wideout expected to commit to Irish
Demetris Robertson (Savannah, GA) is ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 16 overall player in the country, and among the four school favored to land his services, he seems to be down to Notre Dame and Alabama. He has no plans to visit Stanford or Georgia, and Notre Dame is capitalized by sending four coaches for an in-home visit that "went well." Robinson is slated to make an official visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend, but he does love the academics the Irish can offer him.
"Perfect" visit enough to land nation's top linebacker?
Ben Davis (Gordo, AL), the top linebacker in the country, was thought to be deciding between Alabama and Georgia, but a visit to Notre Dame over the weekend was enough to put the Irish right at the forefront. The 6'3", 240-pounder left South Bend raving about head coach Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame family:
“The visit was more than I expected,” Davis told 247sports. “Beautiful campus. Much better than I expected. Coach Kelly is a great guy. His pitch to me is that if I come to Notre Dame, I’m going to get developed really well. I’m going to be challenged a lot. I’m also going to have a lot of exposure, which is great.
"The one moment that stuck out to me was just seeing how much Notre Dame coaches and the Notre Dame family really care about players. Notre Dame is definitely one of my tops now. If I had to grade them, it would be a perfect 10.”
It remains to be seen if that visit will be enough to land Davis as he has two more official visits scheduled, one to Auburn and one to Alabama.
Jonathan Jones will sign with Notre Dame
The Irish are looking for linebacking help in this class, and Jones (Orlando, FL) is their best bet to land one. The three-star prospect has been rising quickly up the recruiting rankings and is now rated as the No. 30 outside linebacker in the country. Notre Dame's only competition is with Michigan due to his close relationship with Jim Harbaugh, but the Irish have made a big push to land him. He had an in-home visit with Brian Kelly right before the dead period, and then met with linebackers coach Mike Elston on Monday. Expect him to sign with the Irish on Signing Day.
