The Notre Dame Fighting Irish put together an impressive 2016 recruiting classes, and they might still land five-star WR Demetris Robertson, who has yet to commit. With 2016 pretty much in the mirror recruiting-wise, the Irish, head coach Brian Kelly and his staff have already turned their attention to the 2017 class.
Quarterbacks are incredibly important in college football, which is why it's not a surprise that the Fighting Irish are targeting several this cycle. Kelly landed Ian Book in 2016, but he's only a three-star recruit and the No. 519 player in the nation. Notre Dame will try to land another QB this year. The Fighting Irish won't land every player on this list. In fact, they'll likely only sign one, or maybe two. A big tip of the hat to 247Sports, as their rankings were used to detail the recruits' overall, position rankings and Notre Dame's interest in the players. The players are listed in descending order of their overall rank. With that in mind, here are the 6 QBs Brian Kelly Meyer is recruiting in 2017.
6. Jairus Grissom
The three-star recruit is the No. 19 dual-threat in the class of 2017. Hailing from Michigan, he checks in as the No. 695 overall recruit. He's visited Notre Dame unofficially twice, but doesn't hold an offer from the school. Syracuse extended him an offer last week; his first Power 5 conference offer.
5. Chris Katrenick
Katrenick is the No. 37 pro-style QB and the No. 693 overall recruit. He's from Illinois, where he's the No. 12 overall player. He visited Notre Dame in September, as well as Wisconsin. The Badgers are his "dream school," but both the Badgers and Fighting Irish have yet to offer him. Miami (OH), coached by former Notre Dame OC Chuck Martin, is the current favorite to land Katrenick.
4. Tyler Lytle
Lytle is the No. 34 pro-style prospect and the No. 662 overall recruit. Hailing from California, the three-star recruit took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame last June. However, the Fighting Irish have yet to offer Lytle, and they might not. For more on Notre Dame's recruiting plans, download the Chat Sports Android and iPhone app.
3. Lindell Stone
Stone is a three-star recruit and the No. 341 overall player in the class. Hailing from Virginia, Notre Dame has yet to offer Stone. His best offer is currently from Wisconsin, although he'll likely add more as the recruiting process continues.
2. Avery Davis
While the first four names on the list aren't likely to take their talents to South Bend, Davis is. The four-star recruit is the No. 6 dual-threat in the nation. Davis is the No. 206 overall player and the No. 28 recruit from Texas. Notre Dame has already offered Davis and he's visited the school. The Fighting Irish are the favorites to land Davis.
1. Hunter Johnson
Notre Dame has an offer out to Johnson and they're recruiting him, bit it's they face a difficult battle to land the nation's No. 1 QB. The five-star recruit from Indiana flipped from Tennessee to Clemson in December. He's the No. 20 recruit in the nation, and holds offers from 23 of the best programs in the nation already. Notre Dame isn't out of the mix for Johnson, but they're far from the favorites.
