Everett Golson started every single regular season game for Notre Dame this season, but he came off the bench in the Fighting Irish's bowl win over LSU. Golson struggled with turnovers all year as Notre Dame lost five of their last six games of the season, and redshirt freshman Malik Zaire played well in the bowl game, creating speculation of Golson transferring.
Golson confirmed that speculation today, announcing his intentions to play somewhere else next season. He has one season of eligibility left and could play immediately as a graduate transfer student. Where is he most likely to end up?
LSU
Neither of LSU's current quarterbacks – Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings – have established themselves as a surefire starter in Baton Rouge, and Golson would be a definite upgrade over either one. The Tigers would give Golson the opportunity to play in a pro-style offense in the SEC, which would bolster his NFL draft stock if he does well.
Golson has reportedly contacted LSU about transferring there, putting them at the top of our list.
Texas
Texas is trying to make a big jump up the standings in the second year under head coach Charlie Strong, and while their roster has a lot of talent, they still have a big need for a quarterback. Tyrone Swoopes, the incumbent, struggled for most of season, and Golson would provide a great bridge until the Longhorns can turn to one of their high-level recruits.
Florida State
The Seminoles have a clear need at QB now that Jameis Winston is headed for the NFL, and Golson has a significant edge over the five quarterbacks expected to be in contention for the FSU starting job next fall. Ohio State's Braxton Miller has also been linked to the Seminoles, but he seems more interested in Alabama - if he does transfer. The Seminoles would give Golson the best chance to compete for a national title right away.
Other schools to watch: Wisconsin, Oregon, Virginia Tech
