We aren't sure where the rumors of Tarean Folston and/or Greg Bryant transferring from Notre Dame started, but we can confirm with certainty that there's no truth to this whatsoever. Both running backs are staying with the Fighting Irish, and have never considered a move elsewhere.
It's hard to understand the justification behind these rumors - neither player has received significant playing time, but both are true freshmen and didn't have a reasonable expectation of playing right away.
Bryant is pursuing a medical redshirt after knee tendinitis derailed his season. He has no interest in moving to another program, and is fully focused on his recovery. Folston has played in three games so far this season, and his explosive 36-yard burst against Oklahoma was a good preview of what he can offer in years to come.
Folston and Bryant were both four-star recruits coming out of high school, and coaches believe that despite Bryant's injury, both still have a bright future with the Fighting Irish. If Folston was considering a transfer, why would Brian Kelly decide to make him available to the media yesterday?
The Irish currently have plenty of options at running back, but George Atkinson III, Cam McDaniel, and Amir Carlisle are all juniors already. With no back dominating the carries for the Irish so far, there's no reason why Folston and a healthy Bryant wouldn't be able to stake a claim for some of the action next season. Transfers happen when a player can't see themselves getting any playing time for the foreseeable future, not when they're a true freshman already in the mix or redshirting because of an injury.
