An injury report cited by USA Today has Notre Dame DL Ishaq Williams listed as 'out' for Saturday's game, with the details 'was dismissed from the team' listed to explain his absence.
Williams, as you probably remember, was one of four Notre Dame players suspended as part of a widespread investigation into academic misconduct at the university (the other three - WR DaVaris Daniels, CB KeiVarae Russell and LB Kendall Moore - are all listed as out with 'is suspended indefinitely' listed to explain their absence. Safety Eilar Hardy was also suspended as part of the investigation, and there has been no news released regarding the investigation since it began.
Interestingly, the injury report has WR Will Mahone, who was dismissed from the team after being charged with three felonies, listed as 'suspended indefinitely'.
After seeing the Mahone listing and consulting people close to the ND football program, we can say with confidence that Ishaq Williams has not been dismissed from the Notre Dame program at this point in time. It appears that the USA Today report simply switched up the Mahone and Williams listings, and this report does not indicate that any kind of academic-related punishment has been handed down. Notre Dame reporters and sites have been completely silent as well, further indicating that the listing was a clerical error.
While the five suspended players are still part of the Notre Dame program at this moment in time, our source stands behind his statement from last month that these players will be dismissed when the investigation concludes.
