With National Signing Day (Feb. 4) just around the corner, Brian Kelly is putting the final touches on his 2015 recruiting class. The Fighting Irish are finishing strong, moving into the top 10 of 247's class rankings...here's the latest on why they've moved up...
Aliz'e Jones
There had been rumblings for some time that the #1 TE in the Class of 2015 wasn't feeling too sure about his commitment to UCLA...and he made Notre Dame fans pretty happy on Thursday when he officially flipped to the Fighting Irish.
Jones (pictured above) hails from Las Vegas, NV, where he played for Bishop Gorman HS. At almost 6'5, he needs to fill out his frame a bit (he currently weighs in at just 218 pounds) but he shouldn't have much trouble with that once he hits the weight room in South Bend. Jones becomes the second high-profile West Coast TE to join the Irish in two years, with Tyler Luatua coming in from southern California last year.
Pots o' Gold
Is Brian Kelly's latest recruiting method a little on the corny side? It might sound like it at first, but his results don't lie: by sending 'Pots of Gold' - packages with 244 'gold' coins (one for each consecutive sellout at ND's stadium), along with other Irish-themed goodies, Kelly is helping himself stand out from the crowd. At the end of the day, it's all about the impression coaches make on recruits...and Kelly has been very clever and creative when coming up with ways to stay on their minds.
The packages went out over the weekend, and the South Bend Tribune's ND Insider has a more detailed look at what they were all about.
