The Notre Dame Fighting Irish got a glimpse into the College Football Playoff committee's thinking earlier this week, and Brian Kelly and the crew didn't like what they saw.
Despite coming in at #6 in the Associated Press poll, the Fighting Irish were slotted at #10 by the committee when their inaugural rankings were released.
Notre Dame's strength of schedule currently comes in at just 22nd, and despite having just one loss to a currently-projected playoff team in the Florida State Seminoles, the Irish will need a ton of things to fall their way in order to slide into one of the four playoff spots.
As Dillon Meehan of FanSided sees it, "if the Irish run the table and finish at 11-1, they will need multiple two-loss teams if they want any hope of making the inaugural College Football Playoff. With only four spots available, it will be very difficult for Notre Dame to make it with their schedule. Quality wins against Louisville as well as on the road against ASU and USC will build their case, however the Irish are still in desperate need of help."
Whether it's fair or not for SEC teams who schedule games against FCS opponents to reap the benefits of those wins is up for debate. However, what's not debatable is that Notre Dame needs to win and win and win some more to find its way into the new College Football Final Four.
