Arizona State looked like they had this top-10 matchup well in hand as they grabbed a 34-3 lead right before halftime, but Notre Dame would not go away.
The Irish kept chipping away, responding with 28 straight points of their own, but a Sun Devils closed the game on a 21-0 run to win the game easily.
Turning Point: After Notre Dame took a 3-0 lead, Arizona State reeled off 34 straight points to take a 34-3 lead late in the second quarter, creating a lead that was just too big for the Irish to overcome.
Key Stat: Notre Dame turned the ball over five times, including three times in the first half. The Sun Devils scored 28 points off those turnovers, which was the biggest reason why they were to grab such a big lead.
Arizona State MVP: Quarterback Taylor Kelly had an outstanding game leading the Sun Devils' explosive offense, completing 17 of 24 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns while also adding in one rushing TD. ASU's defense so gets credit for forcing all those turnovers and returning two interceptions for touchdowns.
Notre Dame MVP: Quarterback Everett Golson's turnovers were a big reason why Notre Dame lost the game, but his outstanding play got them back into it. He threw for 446 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions (a couple of which weren't his fault).
What’s Next? Arizona State will look to extend their five-game winning streak against Oregon State in Corvallis next weekend, while Notre Dame will look to rebound against Northwestern.
